This spot is near a place called the ice cream pot. The colors of the sandstone here is so awesome! This particular spot is on the other side of a slot canyon. The lighting was perfect in the shade because of the reflections spilling out of the canyon.

I took this shot in the blistering cold. A fog had rolled in while I was hiking up the mountains near my home. It was somewhat of an inversion and the temperature dropped from 20 degrees F down to 10 F (-12C).
I had planned on capturing a few shots like this one taken in a cavity of a sandstone cliff. I waited till dark to maximize the colors using my Litra Gear. I used the LitraPro for a slight highlight in the front and two LitraTorch2.0s to light from the back and sides. I threw handfuls of sand until I got the dusty look I was going for.
I hiked out using LitraTorches after finishing this shoot. It was a hard shoot due to temps but it was also a good experience to try something I hadn’t done before. I am looking forward to more night shoots (in the summer!).
