Located on Zimmerstrasse (corner Wilhelmstrasse), Berlin and found when 'walking the wall', Trabi World is the base of Trabi Safari and a treasure trove in its own right. There are 130+ Trabants, all original and all in working order. The last (possibly not here) was built in 1991 with a Polo engine, we were told. A friendly welcome awaits at Trabi World but movement around the site is limited which is a shame because the rows of Trabis deserve exploration and there are other gems too including at least one Wartburg and some former Soviet military vehicles.

Topographie des Terrors/Topography of Terror is a dramatic and historically important exhibition in Niederkirchnerstrasse, Berlin. In the shadow of a remaining length of the Berlin Wall, lie excavations revealing part of the history of the city and the dark era of the 1930s and 1940s. The photographs which accompany the external exhibits (there is also an adjacent exhibition building) are especially chilling.

Using photographs I have published recently including my scans of 1988 images, I have now created three comparative pairs taken nearly 25 years apart. The earlier images pre-date the fall of the Berlin Wall. Since that historic event the city has changed enormously in places and more subtly in others. I am very pleased to have been able to take both photographs in each pair.

The view of Zwölf-Apostel along Zietenstrasse has not changed hugely but a combination of the season and polling of trees reveal a background which has probably been added since 1988. Beyond the church is the slightly less than salubrious Kurfürstenstrasse where girls appeared to be 'working' by mid-morning.

Only just framed correctly and then more by luck than judgement as I was trying to stay sheltered from the elements, this Class 401 ICE set was just departing Berlin Hauptbahnhof with the 1033 to Interlaken.
