Lupins are widespread in Iceland. The long drive from Keflavík to the city of Reykjavík takes one past miles of verges and fields which brighten even a cloudy day. The type is the Nootka lupin (also lupine) [Lupinus nootkatensis]. This pleasing shot was taken in suburban Reykjavík in the evening.

Visible from almost anywhere in Reykjavík, Hallgrímskirkja
is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson. The architect, Guðjón Samúelsson, designed the church to resemble the basalt columns of Iceland's landscape.
