From a time before comfortable and fast airliner service when Manila, Philippines was THE exotic Asian place to travel to for holiday. When Manila truly was the Pearl of the Orient. The Manila Hotel was the luxury hotel where they stayed. Japan’s invasion of Dec. 1941 and the USA’s invasion 1944-1945 took it all away and it never returned.
