There were two Greater Spotted Eagles hunting Spot Billed Ducks in a small marshland right next to a river. The place had a large number of ducks, ruffs, Stilts and other waders in some marshes next to a river - the Eagles waited for a long time before one dived and made an attempt. He chased away the birds to another wet patch nearby and maybe that was the goal - to tire out those ducks. Then he came back and landed on a tall tree 30 feet away.
These are formidable top-line apex predators in the country. This is a large bird of prey with a range much of Europe and Asia. Almost 70 cm in height and around 2-2.5 kgs in weight, this is a big predator. Like every other large predators / eagles, this too is a sluggish hunter that tries to conserve its energy while hunting. The two were perched on a tree for a long while before we saw some action. And they continued to sit still after this brief action.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.
