I took this picture Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 during a walk in and west of the Old Walled Spanish city of Intramuros. This truly is a beautiful place.
Postigo del Palacio gate originally built in1662 a short ways to the south and was moved to this location in 1782. The gate led to the palaces of the Governor-General and the Archbishop of Manila as a private entrance and exit. The Philippine national hero Jose Rizal that was arrested and held by the Spanish in Fort Santiago passed through this gate to his execution at Bagumbayan (Luneta Park) in 1896…. The bell tower and dome of the Manila Cathedral can be seen in the distance. Palacio del Gobernador is the building on the left and Palacio Arzobispal is on the right.

The newly reconstructed Ayuntamiento Building in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines is looking good. The building barriers that were in front are down. This is a wonderful addition to the beautiful Old Walled Spanish City of Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.
In its day before WWII it was also known as the Marble Palace. The interior was lavish with marble lined walls, marble staircases, exquisite marble sculptures, porcelain vases, etc. It was the grandest building in all of Manila and probably all of Asia. During WWII the Americans shelled it until only the lower story of the outside walls remained standing. The inside was nothing but piles of rubble.
