As a portrait photographer I am always trying to interpret a sitter. This is an interesting process and depends a lot on the chemistry between the photographer and the client.

There is a real simplicity about this portrait that I love.

It is too easy to fetishise or sexualise #trans people and forget that whatever our opinions are on identity they are first and foremost human beings.

This is the first piece of headwear I ever photographed. The material is interesting. It is made from fish leather that has been sustainably sourced.

I wanted to create an image that was retro, heroic with one foot in the past and one foot in the future.

I’ve run a bit of post processing and played with orange and teal.

Jemimah is so good at this sort of pose. I wanted her to look aloof, empowered and sassy.

At first glance she is looking ready for a swim but with her comes the subtle bling of her jewellery that in one way feels inappropriate for a swim but in another reinforces her glamour.
