Arthur Meyerson talked a lot about including a counterpoint in each image. Something to anchor the eye, to surprise, or create interest or tension. In this case the color of the banners and posts drew me to the scene but I had to wait a while for the figure to add a counterpoint.

In our workshop with Arthur Meyerson, he taught that black is so important in a color image. The dark areas of this frame help the color to appear more bold and saturated, yet no additional color was added to the image.

One of the image assignments we received from Arthur Meyerson was to shoot through something. This technique can give a degree of abstraction and depth to an image. Pattern type images can be visually appealing at first but the eye can quickly lose interest unless there is something to break up the pattern, a counterpoint.
