Jazz great Miles Davis once said " You can tell the history of Jazz in four words. Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker."
August 29, 2020 is the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Kansas City Jazz legend Charlie "Bird" Parker. This is his memorial in the KC Historic 18th & Vine District near the American Jazz & Negro Leagues Baseball Museums.
Decided to go B&W with an IR effect on this one. The next day quite a few jazz musicians were there playing by the memorial. Just my luck, went the wrong day. :) Lot of activities around town today on the actual anniversary of his birth but raining like crazy. Unfortunately he died at just age 34 after years of cocaine and alcohol abuse starting after a serious auto accident breaking ribs and spine when he became addicted to pain killers and opioids. But his unique style changed Jazz. He later moved to New York and he played all over the world. "Bird Lives' was written places all over the world by his followers, thus the words on his memorial.
