Fluidr / Great Blue Heron Rookery by jrussell.1916

I was surprised when a red tailed hawk flew in and landed in one of the nests when the GBH flew out for a bit. I'm sure it left when the heron returned. Another I tried to focus through the branches as it landed then looked out but no way to get focus through the branches between us. Light was very flat, as well.

About 14 Great Blue Heron nests atop a 50-60 foot high sycamore tree about 60-70 yards away or so. Saw the nests this past winter, went back to find them active. Extremely overcast day the first day, plus backlit. Went back today but even with sun it never shines on them plus branches prevent getting good focus. Photo quality lacking on many, hoping to continue following their progress. Sorry for the extreme number of photos. :)
