These are vermiculations on a limestone wall in Seneca Caverns, Ohio. Vermiculations are relatively small, worm-like structures composed of fine-grained sediments that occur on some cave ceilings and walls. These features are thought to form as films of water shrink by evaporation, leaving behind concentrations of material along irregular ridges (e.g., see Bojar et al., 2014).

The greenish-colored material is algae growing on the cave walls; the algae is not natural here - it grows due to artificial lighting.

Locality: Seneca Caverns, just south of Flat Rock Quarry & south-southwest of the town of Bellevue, northern Ohio, USA
