Taxodium ascendens Brongniart, 1833 - pond cypress (Dawes Arboretum collection, Heath, Ohio, USA)
This tree is also known as Taxodium distichum imbricarium.
Pond cypresses are gymnosperms, but not evergreens. Unusual for a conifer, the pond cypress sheds its foliage in the fall in temperate climates. They are native to parts of southeastern America.
