At 12:46 PM, local time, on 29 May 2024, a fissure eruption started in southwestern Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, at Sundhnúkur Crater Row, north-northeast of the town of Grindavik. As with previous eruptions in this area, the active fissure lengthened and basaltic lava flows spread out in multiple directions.
Update: the eruption stopped on 21 or 22 June 2024.
