At 9:25 PM, local time, on 22 August 2024, a fissure eruption started in southwestern Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, at Sundhnúkur Crater Row, north-northeast of the town of Grindavik. As with previous eruptions in this area, the active fissure lengthened and basaltic lava flows spread out in multiple directions.
Update: the eruption ended on 5 or 6 September 2024.
