The South American country of Chile has asserted that it "owns" part of Antarctica, an idea rejected by many countries. This 2.50 pesos postage stamp shows the Antarctic Peninsula and a wedge-shaped piece of land extending to the South Pole that Chile calls "Chilean Antarctica". The stamp was issued on 12 May 1947 (= Scott Catalogue # 248).
