The South American country of Chile has asserted that it "owns" part of Antarctica, an idea rejected by many countries. This 40 pesos postage stamp shows the Antarctic Peninsula and a wedge-shaped piece of land extending to the South Pole that Chile calls the "Chilean Antarctic Territory". The stamp was issued on 28 August 1958 (= Scott Catalogue # 305).
