User / James St. John / North Korea 30 & 50 & 70 chon Flowers of Mount Paektu block of three postage stamps + label (2000)
James St. John / 97,592 items
These postage stamps were issued on 5 November 2000 by North Korea (= Scott Catalogue # 4095, 4096, and 4097). Many countries issue large numbers of different stamps intended to be purchased by collectors and not used on mail. Trucial States famously did this in the 1960s and 1970s, but other countries have since adopted the practice, including America. North Korea produces many stamps that are solely intended to be acquired by tourists and collectors. Because of this, they are not really postage stamps. However, some have attractive designs and colors.

This block of three stamps depicts alpine flowers occurring at Mount Paektu, a volcano on the North Korea-China border. The 30 chon value shows Aquilegia oxysepala (oriental columbine). The 50 chon value shows Lychnis fulgens (brilliant campion / catchfly). The 70 chon value shows Prunella vulgaris (woundwort / "self-heal").
