This postage stamp souvernir sheet was issued by the Bahamas on 17 March 1992 (= Scott Catalogue # 753). It marks the 500th anniverary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The sheet shows the Columbus Monument on San Salvador Island, Bahamas. It was erected in the 1950s along the beach at Fernandez Bay. Two other monuments on the island also mark the first landing of Columbus - the Chicago Monument and the Heloise Monument. The actual location may be a little north of this one, at or near the Heloise Monument.
