This postage stamp was issued by the Bahamas on 7 January 1965 (= Scott Catalogue # 217). It depicts a queen conch shell, Strombus gigas. Queen conchs are a type of gastropod - basically a slug in a coiled shell. Conch meat is edible - modern Bahamians use conchs as a food source, as did prehistoric Bahamians.
