This watercourse is the Hocking River in southeastern Ohio. It flows southeastward toward the Ohio River - downstream is to the bottom of the photos. A new oxbow lake formed here between 2015 and 2020. Oxbow lakes are cutoff meanders that form crescent-shaped, independent bodies of water. They slowly fill with sediments and eventually become vegetated.
