At 12:46 PM, local time, on 29 May 2024, a fissure eruption started in southwestern Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, at Sundhnúkur Crater Row, north-northeast of the town of Grindavik. As with previous eruptions in this area, the active fissure lengthened and basaltic lava flows spread out in multiple directions. Subsequently, eruptive activity was concentrated at cones.
Update: the eruption stopped on 21 or 22 June 2024.
