With bitterly-cold weather impacting on the Presidential inauguration due to take place this week, I have looked back through my old films for the one and only big storm I experienced in DC., and found this.
The shot was taken after the big snowstorm on 6-8 January 1996 in Alexandria, VA., when I felt it was safe to venture out on foot. The packed snow immediately in front of me is on Stevenson Avenue; both of the vehicles are actually in the car park for Chi Chi's (which was open!) on the opposite side of the road. The restaurant no longer exists.
I note that the area's major newspaper still refer to this storm as one of the most extreme East Coast winter storms to ever hit the DC area. For me, it was a couple of days off work, enjoying powder snow - something I haven't seen in the UK.
