Looking up in the Entrance Hall (Salone D'ingresso) of the Villa Borghese.

The huge Baroque style ceiling fresco, 'The Apotheosis of Romulus', by Mariano Rossi (1775 - 1779) dominates the room. Romulus, the legendary founder of Rome is depicted in the centre appearing before Jupiter in this celebration of 'heroic honour'. The four groups of figures representing that surround them represent Justice, Fidelity, Honour and the Fame of Rome.

In the centre below is depicted an early Roman victory; Marcus Furius Camillus defeats Brennus, King of the Gauls. This is a subtle reference to Camillo Borghese, son of the Borghese principal at the time; he would later married Paolina, the sister of Napoleon Buonaparte. On the lower right, you can find a wolf, it is perhaps a reference to myth of the she-wolf.
