A view of the Duomo façade area above the central and right side doors.
The Mosaics here are the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (on the left here, over the main door) and the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Visible below here are bronze statues of the Eagle of St John and the Winged Bull of St Luke, the attribute symbols of these two Evangelists.
The stone carving and decorations on the archways over the doors are very beautiful.

View of the central/main nave at Duomo Orvieto. The column and walls are made of travertine (white) and basalt (green-black) giving the Cathedral a "layered" look.
The relatively austere nave of gray-and-white striped basalt and travertine marble is in stark contrast to flood of wonderful frescoes in the Duomo's chapel.

The Stained Glass Window at the Apse of the Cathedral was completed by Giovanni di Bonino da Assisi in 1326. There is a small rose window at the top.
Many of the stained glass panels echo the theme of the surrounding frescoes in the apse, and are scenes from the Life of Mary.

A bronze Eagle, the symbol of St John the Evangelist on the façade of the Duomo in Orvieto. This is one of four bronze statues symbolizing the four Evangelists.
Some scholars believe that Lorenzo Maitani, the cathedral's master architect, who was responsible for the overall design of the front façade, also designed the Eagle of Saint John (and the Angel of Saint Matthew).
Note the mosaic inlay on the elaborately decorated façade in the background.

The cathedral at Orvieto dates from the 14th Century and many of the 14th and 15th Century frescoes have been lost to time.
This crucifixion fresco is in the second chapel on the left, and is one of the few the surviving old frescoes. Christ is flanked by the Virgin Mary and a Saint.
Despite the damage, it still looks beautiful.
