Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 28-Jan-15.

With additional 'Berliner Flug Ring' titles

Originally built as an L1049C ordered by Braathens SAFE, Norway, the order was cancelled and the aircraft was delivered new to QANTAS as VH-EAJ in Jun-54 and converted to L1049E standard.

It was sold back to the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Jan-60 as N9718C. It was leased to Twentieth Century Airlines the following month and returned to Lockheed in Jan-61.

It was leased to Capitol International Airways in Feb-61 and they bought it in December that year. The aircraft was operated on behalf of German Travel Company / Tour Operator 'Berliner Flug Ring' between 1966/67. Capitol operated it until Jul-72 when it was sold to California Airmotive and stored at Sebring, Florida.

It was sold to Midair Inc and ferried to Barstow, California, in Apr-73. The aircraft was due to be converted to (fire fighting ?) tanker configuration but that didn't happen and it was broken up at Barstow in 1974/75.

Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 01-Sep-15, plus Topaz DeNoise AI 12-Dec-23.

Trans-Atlantic charters late 1960's, early 1970's... in an early short-range B727!!! I believe this was the 1st B727 registered in Canada.

Named: "Cy Becker".

CF-FUN was delivered to Wardair Canada in Apr-66. In Nov-66 it was leased to National Airlines as N4509 for the winter season, returning to Wardair as CF-FUN at the end of Mar-67. It was leased to Braniff Airways as N302BN in Apr-69 and returned to Wardair as CF-FUN in Mar-70.

The aircraft was sold to Cruzeiro do Sul, Brazil, in May-73 as PP-CJI. It was retired in 1991 and stored at Rio de janeiro-Galeao. In Sep-92 it was sold to a leasing company, Dubarran SA, and leased to AVESCA Colombia as HK-3770X the same month.

It was converted to freight configuration with a main-deck cargo door in Dec-92. It was sub-leased to Transapei Colombia in Feb-94 and then sold to Aerocar Colombia in Aug-94.

Seized by the Colombian Government (something to do with drug running!), it was stored at Bogota, Colombia, in Apr-95. It was leased to SATENA (the airline of the Colombian Air Force) in Aug-95 and returned to the Colombian Government in Dec-96.

Now 30 years old it was stored at Bogota, Colombia. In Sep-97 it was repainted in fake Aviacion de Ejercito (Army Aviation) markings and became a restaurant inside the Colombian Army base at Bogota-El Dorado Airport, Colombia.

One of my all time favourite photos...

Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 24-Mar-15, plus Topaz DeNoise AI 14-Apr-23.

Delivered to BEA British European Airways as G-APED in Jan-61, it only operated for 12 years until it was retired at London-Heathrow in Jan-73. It was broken up there in May-73.

I think the aircraft was doing development/route proving flying from Heathrow as it wasn't officially delivered until Sep-64. By then it was in the new standard BOAC livery with the gold 'Speedbird' on the tail.

First flown in Jul-63, G-ARVF was retained by BAC/Vickers as part of their VC-10 test fleet until it was delivered to BOAC British Overseas Airways Corporation in Sep-64.

BOAC and BEA merged to form British Airways in Apr-74. By this time the new Boeing 747's were being delivered and in Jul-74 the aircraft was sold to the UAE Government with a new VIP interior and a stylish all white livery with red trim.

It retained it's UK registration and was operated for 7 years until it was retired in Mar-81. The UAE Government donated it (on free loan) to the Hermeskeil Museum in Germany.

It was ferried into Saarbrucken, Germany, dismantled and taken to Hermeskeil by road where it was reassembled and put on display in it's UAE Government livery.

Replacing an earlier scanned 6"x4" print with a better version 16-Feb-14 (DeNoise AI 09-Aug-22).

Named: "Robert the Bruce - The Scottish Warrior"

Delivered new to British Caledonian Airways in Jul-80 as G-BHDI it was taken over (along with B.Cal) by British Airways in Apr-88 and served with them until Feb-99 when it was stored at Manchester, UK.

It was ferried to Venice in Jul-99 and re-registered N47831 before being converted to freight config in Nov-99. It was leased to Luxembourg based Cargo Lion in Feb-00 as LX-TLD and operated with them until Mar-01 when they ceased trading and it was stored at Luxembourg.

In Aug-01 it was leased to Ugandan airline DAS Air Cargo, initially as N402JR and re-registered 5X-JCR in Feb-04. It was returned to the lessor in Feb-06 and leased to Arrow Air in Sep-06 as N450ML.

It remained in service with Arrow Air until they too ceased operations in Jun-10. After 30 years in service it was initially parked at Miami (MIA) and then transferred to Opa-Locka, FL, USA in Aug-10. It was broken up there in Jan-13.
