Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 16-Apr-15, plus DeNoise AI 09-Jan-23.

If memory serves, this arrived from Milan with a US Services Band. They were due to play at the US Base at RAF Burtonwood, near Warrington, UK.

We used to get a lot of US Military aircraft in Liverpool. They could no longer land at Burtonwood as the runway was suffering from subsidence due to local coal mining.

The main runway is now part of the M62 Motorway (and still suffering from subsidence from time to time!).

Delivered to Air Malta in Mar-83 as 9H-ABA, the aircraft was traded in to British Aerospace in part-exchange for B.Ae 146's in Sep-94. It was sold on the same day to Indigo Aviation AB and leased to ANZ Air New Zealand as ZK-NAF. In May-99 it was sub-leased to Royal Tongan Airlines (operated by ANZ). It was returned to Air New Zealand and the lessor in Apr-01 and stored. In Jul-01 it was sold to Sierra Pacific Airlines as N712S. It was retired and stored at Tucson, AZ, USA, in Aug-02. The aircraft was last noted still stored at Tucson in Jan-13.

I also have a photo of this with Air New Zealand at...

Operating a charter flight for the Dunlop Rubber Company and with a big 'Dunlop' sticker by the rear cabin door. There was a large Dunlop Tyre factory close to the airport.

The nose on the right is an Invicta Airlines C-54/DC-4.

I'm not sure what the bump just behind the nose wheel might be!

Delivered new to Canadian Pacific Air Lines as CF-CUO in Jan-53, it was sold to Union Aeromaritime de Transport in Jun-59 as F-BHMR.

It was wet-leased to Continentale between Jan/Oct-61 and wet-leased to Air Afrique in May-63, becoming a dry lease in Nov-63 when it was re-registered TU-TCK. It was returned to Aeromaritime in Sep-65 and was re-registered F-BHMR in Nov-65.

It was sold to Air Djibouti in Dec-73, still as F-BHMR. It was sold to Bellamy-Lawson Aviation in Apr-75 as N47058 and converted to DC-6B/F standard in Nov-75 with a main-deck cargo door.

It was wet-leased to Surinam Airways in Apr-78. During the lease it was transferred to the Aggie Aircraft Corporation and was returned to them when the lease ended in Aug-81. It was leased to COPA Panama in Nov-81 as HP-936, returning to the Aggie Aircraft Corp in Jul-82 as N2890M.

It was re-registered N94BL in Dec-82 and wet wet-leased to Guyana Airways in Jan-83. During the lease the aircraft was transferred back to Bellamy-Lawson Aviation in Aug-83 and re-registered N47048. The lease to Guyana Airways continued until it was returned in Jul-85 and was re-registered N94BL again.

It was sold to the Aerial Transit Company in Aug-89 and bought back by Bellamy-Lawson in Jan-90. It was sold to Caribex Worldwide Inc in Oct-90 and sold again to Gulfstream International Airlines in Mar-93. Bellamy-Lawson bought it yet again in Apr-92 and sold it to Octavionics Corporation in Sep-92.

In Jun-93 it was sold to AeroSol Colombia as HK-3847X. It was damaged beyond repair in a landing accident at Villavicencio, Colombia in Feb-94 and later broken up. It was in service for 41 years, quite an achievement for a 1950's era piston engined aircraft.

Built in 1936 and co-opted into the Royal Air Force during WW2 as X9450. G-AEML is still around over 80 years on. It was sold in Spain to Fundacion Infante de Orleans and is based in a collection at Madrid - Cuatro Vientos Airport as EC-AAY (offically EC-MQS). (Updated Dec-17).
