Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 28-Jan-15, plus Topaz DeNoise AI 12-Apr-23.

This is an aircraft that spent all it's life with one airline. Unusual today but quite common in the 60/70's. An old turbojet 707 with Rolls Royce Conways, it was El Al's first Boeing 707 and set-up a speed record during it's delivery flight.

It was delivered to El Al Israel Airlines as 4X-ATA in Apr-61. After 23 years in service it was withdrawn from use at Tel Aviv, Israel in Jul-84 and used as a Cabin Service Trainer. The nose section is still 'alive' and is displayed at the Cradle of Aviation Museum at East Garden City, New York. (updated Jul-18).

Note: In Jul-68, the aircraft was hi-jacked after departure from Rome-Fumicino and en-route to Tel Aviv with 41 passengers and 10 crew. It was forced to fly to Algiers, Algeria. where all non-Jewish hostages were released. After diplomatic negotiations between Israel and Algeria all hostages were released in exchange for 16 Arab terrorists. The aircraft was returned to El Al six weeks later.

The BOAC B707 is G-ARWE.

Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 24-Jul-16, plus DeNoise AI 12-Jan-23.

Delivered new to Kuwait Airways as 9K-ACE in Feb-64, the aircraft was wet-leased to MEA Middle East Airlines in Dec-68, returning to Kuwait Airways in Jul-69.

It was sold to Dan-Air London in Mar-71 and became G-AYVS the following month. It was retired at Dan-Air's engineering base at Lasham, UK, in Jan-77 and was broken up there in Apr-78.

London-Heathrow (LHR) in 1964. A bit quieter than it is today, but it's the quality of the background rather than the quantity. Here we have a Starways/British Eagle Viscount 700, a BEA Comet 4B, a BKS Avro 748 and Airspeed Ambassador and right at the back a British Westpoint DC-3.

Delivered new to PIA in Dec-61 as AP-AMG, this aircraft continued in service for 12 years until it was wet-leased to Air Malta in Mar-74.

Air Malta bought it 5 years later in Mar-79 and it became 9H-AAM the following month. It was retired at Malta in Oct-81 and donated to the Airport Fire Service to practice on!

A murky day at London-Heathrow (LHR).

Unfortunately there's not much I can do with this. It was a poor photo to start off with. I've managed to 'DeNoise' it but it doesn't make it any better really...

Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 17-Jan-15, plus DeNoise AI 04-Jan-23. Slightly blurred...

This aircraft was delivered to Trans Canada Airlines as CF-TJN in Feb-63. It was tragically lost just 10 months later, on 29-Nov-63. It crashed shortly after take-off from Montreal-Dorval (now Montreal-Trudeau), near Therese de Blainville, Quebec, Canada, while on a short flight to Toronto. all 111 passengers and 7 crew lost their lives.

Note: The aircraft departed from Montreal-Dorval normally and was advised to report passing 3,000 and 7,000 feet. It reported in at 3,000 feet and acknowledged a clearance for a left turn to St. Eustache. That was the last radio contact. The aircraft then deviated from its normal flight path about 55 degrees to the right and began a quick descent. It struck the ground at a speed of 470/485 knots). There were no flight recorders in 1963 and the wreckage was so fragmented that no firm conclusion could be reached as to the cause.
