Caltrain F40PH-2C #922 gazes out beyond the platform at San Francisco, for one of the last times in its career. It is the evening of September 20, 2024, and just hours from now Caltrain service between San Jose and San Francisco will be operated entirely by Stadler KISS Electric Multiple Units. 922 is about to lead train 132 out of the station, which was advertised by the railroad as the final F40/Gallery car train set to be operated out of San Francisco before the electric takeover. In reality, there were two more late-night trains with such a consist, but a large crowd of railfans came out to ride this "last run". Though the 922 will be kept on the Caltrain roster for the time being to operate non-electrified services between Gilroy and San Jose, this would be one if its final views of the city it served well for over two decades.
