As I was shooting various frames along the beach at this waterfront park in Wilson Point, Maryalnd, this log and tree caught my eye. I was also watching the clouds as they approached and moved across the sky. Getting the tripod right up to the log, the wide range of view that you can get with the 10mm really becomes apparent here. With the nice ice/snow line and the log, the flowing clouds would become the "mirror" image in the sky. I really liked the way this turned out. Lots of fun shooting with 15 stops of light reduction.
Any thougths or ideas for improvement or things to try here are appreciated.

After shooting for about an hour along the beach and then taking a couple shots looking up into the sky, it was becoming very evident that nature was calling and I really had to go to the bathroom. Being near all that water and ice was not helping. In the park I was shooting in there are a couple Potty on the Spots. One was about 50 meters away. I also did not want to lose out on the clouds and lighting (nor miss the eventual sunset that was about 20 minutes away).
Checking that for the moment no one was nearby, I set this shot up at the base of the tree, double checked again that no one was around, then made the mad dash to the potty and back. Nice thing about long exposures, I had plenty of time.
Who says you cannot do two things at once?

I always enjoy seeing those shots looking up through the trees into the sky. These are really nice when the leaves are gone in winter. As I was playing around with the LE's along the shoreline there on Middle River, I was watching the sunlighting on the nearby trees in the Park and the clouds overhead. Took a few minutes to take a couple shots looking up into the trees in lieu of those along the beach.
Here is the first LE that I took turning the camera upwards. I aligned this to get the clouds criss crossing at an angle. Turned out pretty cool with the clouds that were streaming overhead at the time. The golden lighting on the trees was pretty cool too.
If you look close, evidently there was some nice water vapor up there in the clouds, resulting in a rainbow.
There were a couple joggers passing by giving me some odd looks setting the camera up into the sky. If only they could know what can be seen looking towards heaven!
This gives me some even other fun ideas to try in the future! Hope to see some others done by my Flikr Friends!

This shot along the shore there at the park is looking northwesterly. The sun has set at this point, so I had taken the 6 stop filter off and replaced with the 4 stop, for a total of 13 Stops. This was getting me in the 300s range for exposure. I shot at f/5, and in the end could have been at f/8, as this was nearly overexposed. Part of practicing here and trying new things.
The sky colors and clouds were really changing and streaming here, and made for some nice effect on the sky and in the water where not frozen.
When I saw this photo after on the screen, I noticed that the ice in the lower part of the image was not in focus. At first I thought I had hit the focus ring as I was in manual focusing (needed with the ND filters on). But it was in the correct position for focus. Then I was thinking it was due to f/5. But looking at the beach, all there was in focus up close too.
It was then that I realized we had a very slow moving "Iceberg" moving along the shore. In the 5 minute exposure, the ice here was moving every so little bit. Something new to keep in mind when shooting LE's.

Well - a couple days of temperatures in the teens & twenties (F) have caused Middle River to freeze over pretty good. Amazing how quickly that can happen. As the late afternoon approached, we finally started to get some clouds around with the next round of sleet and freezing rain being forecasted (which we did have by this morning for the commute to work). This was taken about an hour and a half before sunset along the frozen shoreline about a half mile down the river from my usual location. They built a new park along the waterfront where old appartments had been located, so you can now get some easy access to the water here. Some of the older construction from the demo is still along the beach, making for some interesting foreground elements.
This shot is also looking south, and from this location the building there on the shore is a nice reastaurant that you can get to by land or boat (when the river is not frozen). In fact we had a great meal there the night before.
This shot here is taken with the 9Stop and 6 Stop Hoya 77mm filters. The total of 15 stops allows for shots in the 4 minute range at f/11. The 10mm is also great to get in close the action along the shore. Kneeling in the ice was not too bad given the air temperature was near 32 degrees F. Like this location with the overhangin tree to go up against the flowing clouds. Nice when you can get a good patch of blue sky in there too.
Learned something too on this shot. We'll see if anyone catches the mistake made? Extra points will be given if you come up with something other than beyond what I think it is. :))
