Had some fabulous afternoon sunlight hitting the formations that create the Mammoth Hot Springs there in Yellowstone. Here is a Bulb capture catching that sunlight and the streaming clouds overhead.

Well I definitely looked the geek as I walked from the extremely crowded parking lot towards Artist's Point to capture the Lower Falls of Yellowstone. There were a few other photographers there at 2pm ;)
I had my tripod, camera, and then the 300mm hooked to my Cottoncarrier Harness as I trekked to the point. Me and couple hundred other people. My wife refused to walk along with me with all my gear in tow ...
It was fun setting the tripod up and taking the bulb long exposures. I was extremely happy that there were some fantastic clouds streaming overhead, as this allowed me to capture one of Yellowstone's Iconic spots ... but with a different take. Here is one of the first spots I set up to shoot the Lower Falls. I liked this location with the trees along this side of the Canyon Rim. The streaming clouds really make this special I think. For the mid-day lighting, I was very pleased with how this turned out.
... and it was fun explaining to others there what I was shooting and why when they asked the geek standing there next to the tripod ...

In the middle of summer, in the middle of the day, there are the "hot" spots in Yellowstone that the crowds head to ... the best part apart Yellowstone though is it is HUGE. And in being huge, it is very very easy to find empty places away from the crowds that are just stunning ... and just happen to be a great place to set up some bulb captures while you eat some lunch along the river's edge.
This is several miles north of where the "western" entrance road comes into Yellowstone. When feeling stressed out or crowded ... looking at this photo will remind me of the relaxing moments there ;)

Ahhh ... the smell of Yellowstone. As I told my wife on our trip ... what smells in Yellowstone should stay in Yellowstone ;)
This capture here you can see the plumes rising with the long exposure ... and it is in these geothermal areas that rotten egg smell of the gases can really be "enjoyed". It is actually one of just many wonderful things that you get to experience while there in Yellowstone.
This Bulb capture I think catches the essence and mood there at the park.

This image I went back and processed again based on the comments that the original version was a little on the dark side. I brought up the exposure by 33%, and like this lighter version ... I also worked on a B&W version that will upload sometime soon.
I am now making progress into processing images from our day spent in Yellowstone. This was the first image I took after we left out of the Grand Tetons and headed north into Yellowstone. This is along the southern entrance route. Saw the river as we were driving in and was able to stop at one of the many pulloffs to park. Then scrambled down to the river to get near the bank. With little breeze and the nice clouds overhead, the BULB capture really called to me here. I also liked that the sun was starting to burn through the overhead clouds.
The streaming clouds here start to draw you in, knowing that the mystical landscapes of Yellowstone are not far off. Not only is Yellowstone about all the gysers and super volcano elements ... but that these are all within an area that is full of beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers, and forests.
