We took the Wagon Road up out of Moses Coulee intending to use it as a short cut to the Waterville Plateau. After a mile and half of bone rattling climbing we came to a halt at a berm across the road. Far below we were amazed to see a group of people frolicking in Douglas Creek. We spied what we thought might be a side road around the berm and hiked a half mile down to near the people. We asked about the condition of the road ahead. They mentioned a watercrossing so we hiked over to check. The road crossed Douglas Creek in about 2 feet of water and then climbed very steeply up stairstepped granite. We decided not to chance it with my Subaru. We turned around and went the long way around to the plateau.
