The north shore of Mason Lake is visible between the trees. Fog was pouring in through the area of the outlet to Mason Creek. It almost seemed as though the fog was rising from the valleys below, drifting up over the lake and disappearing toward the Bandera Mountain.

The bear grass flowers are nearing the end of their life span. But the lupines were still going strong.

I want to acknowledge the remarkable work of the trail angel or angels who maintain this trail. The old Mason Lake Trail is officially abandoned, but angels work to keep it open. See how they have dug out a path underneath these fallen trees.

This is part of the view from the south shore of Mason Lake. The little peninsula jutting out in the lake in the upper center of the photo is where the lovely campsite is.
