Near the Pacific Crest trailhead, this set of signs are found on a tree. The tree appears to be swallowing the oldest sign pointing toward nearby Snoqualmie Pass. Newer signs indicate the trail ahead is difficult and that horses are allowed to travel here.
Shortly after these signs the old Commonwealth Basin Trail branches left toward the north.

Several side trails branch off the old Commonwealth Basin Trail to viewpoints of waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek. This spot along the creek is very interesting. If one has time to clamber around on the boulders, several waterfalls can be photographed in the vicinity.

Along the old trail through Commonwealth Basin several side trails lead to lovely waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek. This one is a favorite. One of these times I will go to this creek just to photograph the waterfalls and bring my tripod. It is difficult to do this waterall justice without a tripod.

My trip to Cave Ridge began by taking the old Commonwealth Basin Trail. The trail crosses a branch of Commonwealth Basin Creek on a log bridge wrapped with chicken wire. The wire keeps the logs from being slippery. The Commonwealth Basin Trail continues on up the valley to Red Pass. However, the trail to Cave Ridge branches off to the left and crosses the other branch of Commonwealth Creek on a log that is just a bit more challenging.

I hiked the steep miner's trail established in the 1890's up the Commonwealth Basin side of Cave Ridge. Here, the trail climbs through enormous boulders the size of cars.
