A dead tree punctuates the sky next to the ruins of a house on Umtanum Road south of Ellensburg, WA.

PS: After doing research on this house I discovered it was part of a cluster of buildings used as a stage coach stop. The house was used by a ranching family after the stage coach line between Ellensburg and Yakima discontinued. It appears the house has been vacant for many years although the climbing rose surrounding the front porch struggles to survive.

One of several mysterious buildings slowly succumbing to the weather at the abandoned ranch on Umptanum Road.

PS: After doing some research I learned these buildings were part of a stage coach stop along a route between Ellensburg and Yakima.

The abandoned house on Umptanum Road was once adorned by a vine. While the vine is now mostly dead, it's trailing stems still clasp the windows and doors of the porch. In doing on-line research about this place, I learned the vine is a climbing rose. Since it still has a little life left, it may still bloom in the spring.

I also learned this house was part of a cluster of buildings that were a stage coach stop in the stage line between Ellensburg and Yakima. This house was reportedly occupied by a ranching family after the stage line was discontinued.

I always wonder when I see a ruined house like this what trajedy led to the abandonment. I also wonder whether this house was torn to shreds by vandals or by the owner. All plumbing, wiring, windows and doors have been removed.
