Frost was frozen on the fence and grass and fog obscured a distant tree.

On our way to hike the Westberg Trail we stopped to photograph this barn. It was a dark and foggy day. I really wanted the sun to shine through the fog. Luckily, I found a texture to provide some sun!

This woman lived an amazing 94 years before passing in 1910. What changes she must have experienced as a pioneer in the Kittitas Valley!

We stopped at the Thorp Cemetery on our way to the Westburg Trail. The area is named after a settler who established one of the first homesteads in the valley in 1868. The earliest gravestones are from 1890 however, there is a belief the cemetery was in use even earlier. Wikipedia reports local legend holds that the cemetery is haunted by the ghost of a young Indian woman by the name of Susie, who was tragically lynched around the year 1890 at Thorp, by persons unknown in the area. Documents held by the Kittitas County Genealogical Society confirm her death as "caused by hanging by unknown person," listing her father as Salmon La Sac. It is reported that she has been seen riding a white horse, and weeping sorrowfully among the tombstones on moonlit nights. The cemetery is often listed among "haunted places" in Washington state.
