After clear-cut logging, sometimes trees grow back too thickly. Light barely penetrates. I prefer not to linger in these dark places.

We passed a small stream tumbling down a cliff. While icy, it was not frozen, yet.

Lots of icicles hung from the rocky hillsides along the Zig Zag trail. The trail was icy as well. Since we started hiking late, we descended back down the trail by headlamp which illuminated the ice crystals like jewels. I wish I could have gotten a photo of that magical experience.

Fireweed had gone to seed along the trail. We took the brutally steep Zig Zag trail to the logging road and on to the fuel truck.

Wilbur is wearing the new rain jacket I got him, selected for it's photogenic qualities!

We made our second "Annual Day after Thanksgiving Trek" to the fuel truck. The truck was abandoned many years ago at the end of a logging road on a ridge high above Hall Creek. The day was clear and cold and there was just enough snow on the ground to smooth out the rockiness of the logging road.
