The house has been unoccupied for a long time, but the neighbors in a beautiful new house high on the hill beyond are keeping the grass cut. The abandoned dairy barn associated with this house moldered behind me.

According to HistoryLink, there were around 900 dairies in Skagit County in 1900. These were small family operations where cows had a name and mixed ancestry. While agriculture continues to be an important part of the county, few dairies remain.
