Albert Szukalski created this large sculpture in 1984. Szukalski molded the life-sized shapes by dropping plaster-soaked burlap over live models until the plaster dried enough to stand on its own. Then he finished the sculpture with a layer of fiberglass. There is a whole movie on his creation process which I have not purchased.

In 1992, Hugo Heyrman constructed a naked woman out of cinder blocks painted pink and yellow in the Goldwell Open Air Museum near Death Valley National Park. The 25 foot tall statue is meant to represent the pixelated, technological world we live in.

The Christ figure from the Last Supper statue ensemble at the Goldwell Open Air Museum. The ghostly life-sized figures were created in 1984 by Charles Szukalski. He draped burlap soaked in plaster over live models posed as in the Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci. When the plaster set, the models slipped out. Then the figures were coated in fiberglass. Remarkably, the sculptures still stand in the desert after 38 years.

In 1984, Belgian artist Charles Albert Szukalski created a ghostly interpretation of Christ and the disciples sited against the backdrop of the Amargosa Valley. To construct the life-sized figures, Szukalski draped live models in burlap soaked in plaster and posed them as in the painting by Leonardo DaVinci. After the plaster set, the models slipped out. Later the figures were coated in fiberglass.
This sculpture is the signature piece of the Goldwell Open Air Museum located near the ghost town Rhyolite, Nevada outside of Death Valley.
