Former Houghton Poultry Research Station, built on the grounds on the former "Houghton Grange".
The grange itself date back to around 1897 as a farm house being passed between multiple inhabitants until around 1947 when it was passed to Veterinary Educational Trust who constructed the modern structures onto and around the grange between 1948 and 1959. The site was later passed to the Agricultural Research Council in 1959, who continued to modify and expand the estate, after the Veterinarian Research Council moved on.
The main laboratory complex was later closed in the early 1990's following the closure of the older leukosis laboratories to the east a few years prior.
Since closing the derelict structure has sat unloved being passed between owners with vandalism taking hold being seemingly abandoned a numerous points with multiple failed security endeavors. Previous plans for the site over time have suggested the building of houses and preservation of the Historic grange structures. No work has taken place due to concerns of contamination within the ground and the excessive asbestos used within the construction of the buildings.
Seen in this image is the heavily decayed "eastern wing" to the bottom, the main grange house within the center and the seemingly more preserved "western wing" to the top. The security cabin is hidden under trees with those inside tasked to attempt securing the broken structure.
