Fluidr / KS019140-Porta Nigra-HDR by KS_aus

Construction probably began around 170 AD. The name Porta Nigra came in the Middle Ages; the actual Roman name of the gate may have been Porta Martis (= Mars Gate), dedicated to Mars, the god of war.
The Porta Nigra was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List ‘Roman Monuments in Trier’ in 1986.
