WIth the infamous 405 temporarily shut down, a Toyota Tundra pulls 282,000 pounds of Space Shuttle and dollies over the Manchester Ave bridge around midnight. Rest assured this was filmed for a TV commercial. We were told that CalTrans wouldn't allow the Shuttle's transporter vehicles to cross due to a weight issue, so the Shuttle was transfered onto presumably lighter dollies for the cross bridge move. An empty 405 was a strange and quiet sight. The absence of noise became apparently when traffic resumed a short while later and the roar of passing cars filled our ears. An amazing sight to see the Endeavor crossing over the freeway.

Space Shuttle Endeavour rests at the end of today's leg just short of the 405. Here it will be moved onto dollies to be pulled across the Manchester Bridge by a Toyota truck (and yes that is being filmed for a commercial). It's just not something you see every day, nor will it happen ever again. The Goodyear Blimp is sailing along behind the scene.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour's face glistens in the sun in a Los Angeles parking lot during a rest stop on its 12 mile journey to the California Science Center. The museum was adamant that the shuttle not be cleaned up. Instead it should show the wear and tear it has experienced in its 25 trips to Space. Its incredible to think of the intense forces that acted upon the Shuttle during takeoff and re-entry.

ET-94 is home. Well, to its new home. This morning the sole remaining Space Shuttle external fuel tanks arrived in Los Angeles after a 5 week journey from New Orleans. The tank will join Space Shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center after making an 18 hour trek through the city on Saturday. Eventually, an entire launch set will be assembled and the Science Center will have a complete Shuttle in launch position. This 15 story tall, 35 foot wide fuel tank will be the tallest part. Weighing 66,000 pounds empty, this tank provided liquid hydrogen and oxygen for the Space Shuttleâs main engines. This particular one, which is the last, never went to space. Sections of the foam insulation were removed as part of the investigation to the Columbia disaster. Those bits will be replaced. When full, the tank could hold 1.6 million pounds of fuel. I never got to see a shuttle launch, but I really wish I had. Such amazing pieces of technology. I canât wait to see this at the California Science Center!
