An approaching thunderstorm dumps rain over the Teton Range as some cloud to cloud lighting strikes. About 20 minutes later I was hit with horizontal rain from this storm and I fled to escape the intense lighting this storm was starting to produce. The clouds were making interesting movements and layers as the storm approached. Grand Teton is obscured by the torrential rain in the distance. A Lightning Trigger IV helped me capture the lightning.

The Teton Range is shrouded in rain from a developing thunderstorm in this view from nearby Signal Mountain. A few hours before there were just a few random puffy clouds, but that scene would soon change as a line of storms began to develop and move east across the area. At the first sign of lightning I retreated to lower elevation, as Signal Mountain is the high point for about 10 miles in any direction as it rises 1000 feet above the valley below. The view of the Teton Range is excellent from there. This view is centered around the tallest point in the range - 13,755 ft. Grand Teton. The view of the summit is obscured by the heavy rain. The prominent dark peak on the left is Teewinot Mountain at 12,235 ft.

A few splashes of dark clouds foreshadow thunderstorms that would emerge over the Teton Range just a few hours later. The beautiful valley known as Jackson Hole provides a perfect foreground to this stunning mountain range as it rises some 7000 feet above the floor.

Across the plain in the valley of Jackson Hole I noticed a rainbow form over Uhl Hill in the middle of Grand Teton National Park. I have never before seen a rainbow that seemed to be at such a low angle to the ground, as if it was just hugging the contours of Uhl Hill.

Grand Teton's summit is just barely visible as it spawns clouds on its more northern face. The developing clouds would foreshadow thunderstorms a few hours later. Some 7,000 feet below, the valley of Jackson Hole provides some contrast ing terrain to the spectacular backdrop.
