MISSION HILLS - LAFD Firefighters were summoned to reports of a rubbish fire on the side of the Northbound 5 Freeway, near the 118 Freeway interchange, at 12:15 PM on July 14, 2023. Fire spread to the nearby grass and consumed approximately 1.5 acres. This area is fully contained by the surrounding roads, and there were no structures or personal property threatened. It took 22 Firefighters 43 minutes (12:58pm) to locate the fire, establish a water supply to the freeway location, and extinguish the burning dry grass on the shoulder at the interchange. No reported injuries. Cause under investigation.
