It's never enough to capture the frozen lighthouses from shore, so I find it necessary to venture onto the frozen pier - carefully. I determined it was worth the attempt to head out around the outer light, to see how the ice looked from the end of the pier. It was well worth the walk, and not nearly as slippery as the other surfaces I've climbed in my day. Lots of people on the pier today - that's unusual from my experience over the past decade or so, but maybe I usually get there before everyone else is awake.

High winds churn up Lake Michigan, pelting the St. Joseph, Michigan lighthouse with waves, creating splashes up to 70 feet in the air. The outer light tower is 35 feet tall, and this splash is at least twice that height.

The 45 foot tall Lake Falls in Matthiessen State Park, near Utica, Illinois. Ice is beginning to form along the canyon walls - can't wait until it does!

This image is three "portrait" oriented photos stitched together into a panoramic. The canyon is just too wide to capture it all with one 18mm lens, so this panoramic does the trick.

Gale force winds throughout the day churned up Lake Michigan and created high waves along the South Haven, Michigan shore.
The lighthouse tower is 35 feet tall (from the pier) another six feet to the water - making that splash around 50 feet tall.
