walking out the Limantour Spit in the rain, with the protected marsh on the right side, the ocean on the left
one odd thing about the Horizon camera: in order to avoid getting too much distortion of the horizon, the camera needs to be held at a particular angle, making it hard to compose with anything but a half-and-half relationship of earth and sky... will have to work on that, 'cause it looks like too much sky here

it makes such beautiful shapes on the sand, like calligraphy of some mysterious language... if only i could read it, what stories it could tell!

i was out walking Limantour Spit with John Hulls from the Point Reyes Light last saturday, braving the rain to look for evidence of damage from the oil spill...
and in case of interest, the Marin Independent Journal has publishing an opinion piece by me about Point Reyes today -- if you'd like to read it, it's posted on-line here:

we didn't see any oil in the water or on the beach at Limantour saturday, but we did see three oiled birds, all grebes (diving birds) -- this one wasn't quite as bad, another was completely coated in black and couldn't flap its wings at all, they were pasted to its sides -- so all it could do was hop down the beach, peeping pathetically...
absolutely heartbreaking to see them in such a panic, and to know there's nothing you can do to help -- we'd have freaked them out even more trying to catch them, and had no way of cleaning them off.
