inscription on pale-blue paper, inside of a favorite childhood book, to me from grammie and grampie (except she made a mistake, writing grampie's name twice instead of her own) -- i love that i had just turned four at the time, but grammie already carefully wrote out the inscription and pasted in a bookplate with my name on it, all rather elegant for a 4-year-old!
also interesting that the book plate says "laura," but the inscription is to "laurie" -- she often called us laurie and jeanie when we were little.

my maternal grandmother, lois belfield watt (aka grammie) had a favorite saying: when we'd ask her favorite color, she'd say, "I love any color, as long as it's blue."
as you might imagine, MANY of her personal belongings were blue -- and i've had the idea to start photographing them. i'm not sure if it will stay a polaroid project, or migrate to 120 film, but her copy of Little Women, which is covered in what was probably her most-favorite shade of blue, seemed like a good place to start.

bookplate inside Little Women, in the previous image -- my grandparents weren't married until the summer of 1934, and the handwriting looks like my great-grandmother's -- a gift for the engaged couple?
and i'm heartbroken this morning by news of the tragic death of our flickr-friend Hugo -- his unique eye will be so missed...
