i am deeply disappointed, and frankly quite disgusted, by the Secretary of Interior's decision today to shut down Drakes Bay Oyster Company -- there has been an oyster farm at Drakes since the 1930s, and it will be a huge loss to the landscape, as well as to the culture and history of this place. such a rare example of nature and culture co-existing in relative harmony and sustainability, and they want to just erase it in the name of "wilderness," based on flawed science, a cherry-picked view of history, and in some cases, out and out dishonesty.
what on earth can he be thinking?

a re-visit to the collapsed creamery (dating back to the 1880s or so) at D Ranch -- I still can't believe the NPS let this happen (it only collapsed last year) through its neglect.
please see this image for earlier images of it still intact...
