at my dad's old house, and Stanford campus -- we moved in after he got tenure, in 1975 when i was 8 years old -- my grandparents moved west from DC and built a wing on our house -- and after my parents divorced in 1977, i lived here part time (joint custody = switching houses every two weeks) until i left for college in 1984 (age 17), and then visited frequently until this summer, when they sold it to move to South Carolina.

when we moved into the house in 1975 (as second owners), my dad's parents moved west from Washington DC and built an addition onto one end of the house -- this is one of the original windows at that end, and i always loved those deep sills, wanted to curl up on them with a book...

back in July, I spent one last day at the house where my dad and stepmother had lived since 1975 -- they were moving east, and the house was being shown to would-be buyers -- and i took some polaroids, which i somehow forgot about until now. so here's the first one -- a corner of the patio with the huge wisteria vines, where we buried our cat Peter after he died at the ripe old age of 17...
