The afternoon sky was overcast. I decided to stop shooting and focus on other activities with the family. It was almost the sunset when I realized that the clouds have moved around and the horizon was getting clear. It was then all about finding a subject before the sun sets down. Well, there were some real awesome places for sunset should I knew this was happening. One must expect dramatic changes in weather within in the National Park limits. Lesson learned!

From the weekend family visit to Pfeiffer beach. Pfeiffer Beach is located in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, which is off the Pacific Coast Highway about 37 miles south of Carmel, down a narrow, one-lane dirt road. For only a few weeks in every winter, Sunset can be viewed through the Keyhole Arch. This natural phenomenon depends on various factors like the perfect alignment of the Sun with the keyhole, a clear sky and of course only a very few (4-5) people in the front of the crowd can get this picture every time. I went completely unprepared in a casual mood with the family. In fact, it's when I was shooting light rays that I thought of giving it an attempt and when I went in front of the arch, the show had just started and there were only a couple of people who had realized it. I took a couple of snaps quickly and ran for calling my wife and kid. But, before they could make it, the show was over. Yes, you get only about 2-3 minutes for witnessing this grand show! I am happy that I was able to make it without much preparation!

Arch rock of Joshua Tree National Park and Milkyway. It was after a long wait that I went for a night shoot and this time to the dream of milky way shooters. Joshua Tree NP is very popular for its night sky and interesting rock formations. Arch rock is probably the most important of those.
