Very drab colours compared to the male of the same species. This is a common trait amongst duck species and is intended to camouflage the female during nesting.

I've been off Flickr for a week, taking a 3-day golfing break with some friends down in the English county of Dorset where we indulged in some beautiful weather and and some not so beautiful golf. Thanks to all who faved and commented over the past week and apologies for not replying but I thought if I was going to take a Flickr break then it had to be a proper one.
